Our story

A family recipe, carried across the world to Clinton.

We came to the United States with our children and settled in Clinton, where we still live today. In 2013 we opened Zaytoon to support our family, and to bring the food we grew up on to a town that hadn’t tasted it yet.

Zaytoon

How we opened

Zaytoon is our first restaurant in the United States. We opened on High Street in 2013 to support our family, and we’ve cooked the same way ever since: nothing fancy, nothing reinvented, just the food we grew up on.

Who’s in the kitchen

Cooking is my wife’s life. It always has been. She’s the one who brings the home cooking we grew up on to Clinton. Neither of us set out to run a restaurant. We both trained and worked in other fields first, and Zaytoon came later, as the way to take care of our family.

Our family, then and now

Our children are grown now and building lives of their own, and we couldn’t be prouder of them. Some of the art on our walls came with us from home; some of it was made right here in Massachusetts by a local artist, because we like supporting local work too.

Staying open

We’ve received a citation from the Massachusetts Legislature, and a Best of BusinessRate seal for 2025. But the thing we’re proudest of is simpler: when COVID closed dining rooms across the state, we remained open. We kept the kitchen going with curbside pickup for anyone who wanted it.

Zaytoon means olive: trees that take seven years to bear fruit and live for a thousand.

They’re patient, they remember, and they feed people through hard years. That’s the kind of restaurant we wanted to be.

When you walk in

We hope it feels like someone made dinner for you. Friday through Sunday is when the buffet really opens up. If you’re new, ask any of us what’s on the line that day.
